Roberta Guaspari Demetris is feeling lost and hopeless . . . her marriage has just ended in divorce and for the first time in her life, she's on her own. Roberta, a talented musician who never made it to Carnegie Hall, runs into an old friend from high school and he suggests setting up a violin program at an inner-city school. Roberta begins to teach several kids the fine art of the violin, but the job isn't as easy as it sounds. The kids hate her, the other teachers hate her and the parents hate her for being too hard on the kids. Eventually, Roberta settles in and she keeps her job for ten years until budget cuts force the principal to fire her. Having grown to love her students and the program, Roberta embarkes on a journey to fight the system. But will she succeed?
