So polished, it gleams. I enjoy this movie a lot. One of a "murder of manners" stories where the killer is too smart for his own good and is trapped by the meticulous methods of the dedicated inspector. "Columbo" springs directly from this kind of thing.

There are a few drawbacks for me. It could be more cinematographic, Hitchock could have drawn a few scenes out of the apartment and distinguished it from a stage presentation. The idea that "all pass keys look alike" is OK for the audience to accept, but then again, the viewer is asked to accept a LOT of incidental clues at the same time. I also think that a bit of variety could have been injected if at least one character wasn't typical "British stiff upper lip", especially Grace Kelly (who after all is being hauled away for a murder she didn't commit). "Hitch" sometimes makes female leads just too emotional and inept for me.

Still, a corker of a story.

A great film from Hitchcock. The plot was highly exciting, and some of the scenes were amazingly suspensful.
