If you enjoyed Eternal Sunshine, you'll love The Truman Show. It's strange saying that since this movie came before Eternal Sunshine, but I find that The Truman Show is the lesser known of the two. It's a fantastic movie that will force a few tears out of you (which is hard to do for a desensitized movie-watcher like myself), and maybe even a few laughs. It's commentary on prime-time and, specially, reality television hits it right on the nail, and as long as television exists so will this film's message.

twas another one of those great Jim carrey movie..certainly a great idea of a story to begin with..and its a well balanced comedy and sentimental movie.

This film is absolutely pure genius. Jim Carey's best film and quite possibly one of the best movies ever made. Carey plays the role of Truman Burbank, who from birth has been part of a reality TV show that showcases his life...without him knowing it. Seahaven (the town he lives in), the people, his wife...all fake...all actors and actresses. Christof, the man that runs the show does anything he can to keep Truman from leaving. All is good, until Truman starts to discover that everything is fake, and plots and escape to the real world. This movie makes you feel good, and is intelligent in many ways. Carey does an amazing job playing this serious role, and adapts well. The special effects weren't mind blowing, but it doesn't really matter. What I liked best about this movie was the meaning behind it. A news reporter asked Christof why Truman ever came close to discovering the truth. He simply stated that people accept the reality they are given . That is powerful (We all could be in a TV show...but we accept the reality in which we are presented). Excellent movie that is a must watch. If I could give 6/5 stars I would, but 5/5 will have to do.

One of my favorites from Jim Carrey. You fall in love with his character. Very original and theres still some comedy in there as well.

I was introduced to this movie by watching Oprah. This was actually a coincidence, as i got there zapping and suddenly noticing Jim Carrey being interviewed. This piqued my curiosity and watching this movie it opened up the reasons for my hatred of reality TV shows. It is about living life, and not watching others live it. That part of the movie, and the whole storyline itself is an amazing piece of work. Also actually seeing my idol Philip Glass behind the keyboard is icing on a large delicious cake. It is the first real proof that Jim Carrey is more then just a Goof. He is a serious piece of work capable of a lot more then we expect.

Interesting movie to the very end. Everything is well done, based in an original concept. Recommendable even as a buy. A great drama (and a little of comedy) movie for all the family.
