This movie catapulted Julia Roberts into stardom and deservedly so. Both she and Richard Gere are excellent in this fairytale romantic comedy. No it's not very realistic, but it's never meant to be. The performances, on the other hand, are very realistic. The setting is great, even minor characters are portrayed perfectly. Yes it's probably a chick flick, but it's a great one that's become a classic.

Wow. I'm surprised this movie received such a low score. Personally, I love it. It is witty, funny, and sweet. And for those who say it's unrealistic, it's not. Why shouldn't a clever person fall in love with a hooker? First of all, I've known people that are much more peculiar couples than that. Second of all, a person usually judges another based on personality, sense of humor, etc. and not on riches, looks, or job...

Of course, unrealistic movies happen all the time, but this has to be the one with the less close-to-reality plot ever. I did not like it.

What can you say about a movie that the main character can go from cheap and trashy to glamorous and elegent. This movie has it all. It shows how Julia's character went from being on the streets to being where she belonged. She started out as a call girl when Richard Gere's character find her and he leads her to the road of upstanding young woman in the few short hours of the film. It seems that she was destined to be a good girl just needed a bit of help along the way. Great movie
