This movie catapulted Julia Roberts into stardom and deservedly so. Both she and Richard Gere are excellent in this fairytale romantic comedy. No it's not very realistic, but it's never meant to be. The performances, on the other hand, are very realistic. The setting is great, even minor characters are portrayed perfectly. Yes it's probably a chick flick, but it's a great one that's become a classic.

Why shouldn't a clever person fall in love with a hooker? First of all, I've known people that are much more peculiar couples than that. Second of all, a person usually judges another based on personality, sense of humor, etc. and not on riches, looks, or job...
