Nora Wilder (Parker Posey), a thirty-something New Yorker who is cynical about love and relationships. Her mother (Gena Rowlands) reminds Nora constantly of her unmarried status and her best friend Audrey (Drea De Matteo) seems to have a perfect marriage. One day she meets Julien (Melvin Poupaud), a Frenchman who has a joie de vivre to spare, but she's scared of repeating her past (bad) experiences. He eventually moves back to France. After some soul searching and encouragement from her Audrey, they head off to Paris to find him.
