As usual, Stone pulls out every stereotype in the book to move his vision of "morality play" to Wall Street. In some ways, it's effective, there are a lot of details, even if broadly drawn, that are interesting to watch. "Insider trading" has a lot of potential to illustrate the human side of financial manipulation.

At the same time, it is really hard to feel for any of the characters, not Sheen or the relentlesly ugly Michael Douglas. There is not enough time spent on fleshing out the lives and aspirations of the players. Daryl Hannah is written as almost completely reactive.

If one were to compare this movie to something like "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington", this film is far more realistic on the surface. Where it lacks is in the fact that Oliver Stone is so interested in painting humanity with a broad brush that he constantly misses the compelling stories of the individuals who make up the whole.

"Wall Street" has to be the absolute best movie about business and corporate greed. Michael Douglas's portrayal of Gordon Gekko really transcends all time. Charlie Sheen was also great as rookie broker Bud Fox.
