Great beginning, Bruno is the classic stalker you never want to meet on public transportation and he's well-characterized as a babbling, bumbling loser. Of course, the "criss-cross" murders seem ludicrous but Hitchcock does a good job of making sure Guy's wife comes off as nasty, from her pinched ponytail and (the famous) coke-bottle glasses to her scheming and whining voice.

The pacing is brisk here, characters are fleshed out quickly and nothing goes to waste. The sister of Guy's girlfriend (with her own eyeglasses) is hysterical in her bluntness and her enthusiastic "murder fever". Sometimes, Hitchcock is a little prone to exaggerate a few things too far, as the viewer can see in a scene where every fan turns left and right following a tennis match except for the haunting Bruno. Any film with two women (much less one) wearing glasses is not a huge mystery in my mind, so the connection is not at all surprising for me.

The ending is not satisfying. Why would the cigarette lighter indicate anything since Guy's girlfriend (who gave it to him) is strongly in his corner? Why does Guy play better tennis because he's freaked out? The spectacular merry-go-round crash is exciting but distracting. There are elements here, but without the combination of nerve-racking suspense and creepiness of "North By Northwest" or "Vertigo" - this is like a Hithchcock "practice movie" for his bigger efforts.

A brilliant suspense thriller from the Master - Alfred Hitchcock. One of my favourites of his, and one of my favourite films overall, Strangers on a Train brings all the goods; a solid script and story, great direction and a strong cast (especially the brilliant Robert Walker). A real gem which is sadly over-looked. The finale is extremely memorable and will leave you on the edge of your seat, and the "glasses murder" is an image you won't soon forget.

The story is done so well and the movie is a good thiller along with it Hitchcock does a fantsic job with this movie and makes it a classic.
