This is a truly good, musical movie that deserves the distinction of being called a movie masterpiece. Gene Kelly was definitely an excellent dancer, and Debbie Reynolds both looked stunning and acted divinely in this film. All of the numbers were winners and there was plenty of humor in this movie to! It is for this reason that I proudly give this movie 5 out of 5 stars! :idea: Enough said! ;)

If one movie could be used to illustrate the history of the American musical and what could rightly be called "the American Ballet", this would be a good candidate. As a movie, it's slightly less interesting, the story and dialog are rather ordinary. To appreciate it, one needs to look at the dance.

Just looking at two numbers is instructive. The title sequence is amazingly joyous with an exhuberant tone and choreography that's hard to forget. If this isn't a good enough example of Kelly's ability, the "Good Morning" number is fascinating. Not only do Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor pull Debbie Reynolds into a dance that's over her head, they contrast markedly. O'Connor's loose-jointed approach to dancing is obvious, his head and joints swivel and sway. Kelly, on the other hand, dances like an impossibly capable hurricane - brimming with athleticism and no wasted movement, just remarkable.

A really interesting film to watch if you want to know more than the superficial aspects of 20th century entertainment.

Great movie. I watch it with my dad whenever it is on. Besides the singing in the rain number my other favorite is the good morning song. I love when they tip over the couch!

A pretty good classic musical that has a good story i give the movie a rating of 3 stars.
