Mike Nichols has a tendency to pick projects where we find rich and interesting characters, that is to say, people. Just look at the array of pictures under his belt: Closer, Postcards from the Edge, Silkwood, and The Graduate (to name a few).
Regarding Henry is no exception.
Harrison Ford, playing Henry, has a unique and interesting role here, he technically plays two parts: before the shooting Henry and after the shooting Henry. He not only pulls this off, but does so believably, especially when he gains a conscious and has to struggle with these deeper feelings that he's supressed after years of being a lawyer and the moral ambiguity of the law.
Annette Bening is very good in this movie, although I think her character was written a little weakly, and a little naive, but it works well in the second half of the movie when she's not only coping but trying to keep things from falling apart.
This is a people centric film, i.e. Character driven. Don't expect much detailed scenery or long discourses on the nature of humanity.
In the end, the movie delivers on what it promises to, we get something about ourselves and the nature of what is valuable. A good solid picture.
