The story of the life and times of Tobias Wolfe, writer, and professor of literature is told through the eyes of young Toby (Leonardo DiCaprio). Set in the 1950s, Caroline (Ellen Barkin) is a single mother who runs into the seemingly perfect man, Dwight (Robert DeNiro). He encompasses all that she needs, a loving husband, and ideal father to Toby, or so it seemed. After they marry, things change. Dwight becomes a control freak with Caroline, and a sinister step-father to Toby. Watch the mother and son cling together to try to make it out on their own.
