Worst, Star Trek, Ever!

Robert Wise had no business directing this movie. Good actors, good characters, and a good plot concept, but the plot could have easily have been only an hour long.

When you spend 1/2 of the movie simply traveling slowly through the cloud and when it takes 10 minutes to dock with the ship, the plot is too stretched out.

I'm sorry, I really wish I could have said better about it.

Overall I like it, though I have to give it the same complaint as everyone else, way too slow moving.

The movie seems to revolve too much around long special effect sequences and does not give enough attention to the characters or storyline.

I'm a big Star Trek fan and I have to say I don't care for this movie much. This movie really put me to sleep. All the crew of Enterprise to is travel non-stop in Space. Don't get me wrong, there are some part I like. We finally get to see the Klingon with the bumpy forehead. And that is really cool to see that. I like how they speak in different Languge. So I give it a three stars.

I'm a huge Star Trek Fan and own every film and the entire Next Genreation episodes, as well as many of the videos created on the making of and documentaries. This film was just too long tooo slow, and spent too much time on the subplots to make a very big impact on most people, yes the Cinematography is great the space shots are outstanding but that's just not enough to excuse the wasted time and acting ability of so many outstanding actors and crew people. I own it and of all the ST films I have I watch it the least, except when I can't sleep, Works every time

This movie is a little too long for my taste, and I find that I easily fall asleep watching it because of that. The story is very good and the FX are great for the time when it was made. If it would have been a little shorter I would give it 5 stars.

This may not have been the best Star Trek Movie, but it was a good beginning though. It also had something that some of the later Star Trek The Next Generation Moviesa lacked; big-screen thinkers. Gene Rodenberry surrounded himself with big-screen thinkers (people who worked on movies; not only those who had worked on the TV Show) when working on this film, and they used camera shots that made the sets seem bigger and the enterprise look better.
The actors and the roles they played were larger than life, larger than the small screen. The actors played their roles really well and seemed very comfortable doing it.
The story was good - it was entertaining and had a great ending that had many fans (including myself) wondering whether what happened at the end was the birth of one of Star Trek The Next Generations deadliest villians: the Borg.
Basically, while Star Trek The Motion Picture may not have been the best of the star trek movies - it is definitely a good movie and a decent start to a franchise that has now had 10 movies so far.
