A young Oncologist, Dr. Michael Reynolds (Woody Harrelson), reluctantly agrees to see a terminally ill half Navajo inmate Blue (Jon Seda). When Blue escapes he takes Dr Reynolds hostage and proceeds to take him on a journey across some of the most beautiful countryside in the Southwest United States. Blue is in search of a Sacred Mountain he has read about in a book and a Navajo Medicine Man that can lead him there. Along the way the unlikely pair become entangled in a relationship that leads them both down a path of human growth and spiritual understanding.
