Two boys, Corey (Fred Savage) and Jimmy (Luke Edwards), run away from home after Jimmy is sent to a care facility by his parents after being traumatized by witnessing his twin sister drown. They go off to California with two problems: they don't know how to get there and they don't have any money. During their quest to California they meet a runaway named Haley (Jenny Lewis) who discovers that Jimmy has a fantastic talent for video games. Together they go to California to enter a video game tournament, "Video Armageddon". It's easy until they start being chased around by a bounty hunter who was hired by Corey and Jimmy's parents to take Jimmy to the care facility. Along the way they also meet up with a kid, Lucas Barton, who owns every NES game available including the power glove. He loves the power glove, he thinks it sooooo bad. They finally enter the tournament and discover that the way Jimmy must win is to beat Lucas Barton and to play a new never-before-seen game, <i>Super Mario Bros. 3</i>. Does Jimmy have what it takes to beat Lucas or will he lose?
