A must-see for any horror fan.

Carrie is a lonely girl with telekenitic powers. She starts using them when she is bullied and when she is irritated. The ending was a shock!

This was the first movie that ever scared the heck out of me. I was just a kid the first time I saw it, but it holds up after all these years. It's also one of the few examples of the movie being better than the book for Steven King fiction....

This was the first movie that ever scared the heck out of me. I was just a kid the first time I saw it, but it holds up after all these years. It's also one of the few examples of the movie being better than the book for Steven King fiction. Although the film is dated by the era in which it was made, the story itself is timeless. There is a little Carrie White in all of us. Who hasn't felt like an outcast, like a freak, like an unpopular nerd who will never get a date to the big dance? Everyone has felt like that at one time or another, and it is that universal alienation that makes this film a classic. The acting was wonderful for the most part. I believed. The direction was outstanding. Brian De Palma took liberties with the book, and it worked. There were some lighter moments in the film that emphasized the darker ones. Without the humor, I don't think the film would be as good as it is. Excellent movie for those who love the horror genre and an excellent film for people who just don't know how good horror can be.

Superb King adaptation is one of the scariest films ever made. Spacek is wonderful, and Piper Laurie is absolutely terrifying as Carrie's religious fanatic of a mother. The climax - beginning with the prom and ending with the hand - is a collection of some of the most haunting scenes ever filmed.

Part tragedy, part horror, this film is a true horror classic.

Too slow to start.
This seems to be a thing with Brian De Palma films. I really have to get round to seeing his new film because Scarface also started on the slow start and ended brilliantly.

Too slow to start.
This seems to be a thing with Brian De Palma films. I really have to get round to seeing his new film because Scarface also started on the slow start and ended brilliantly.
For the first hour-hour and a half this film is a dreadful chick flick about some awful whiny Texan or wherever with a splash of soft porn in the shower and a frightening devout Christian beating her up.
The plot begins with the title character, Carrie White, having her period in the shower. Yeah, Stephen King is original. So all the girls pick on her because her Christian mum never told her about “the birds and the bees�. As a result all the girls get a weeks worth of detention with the P.E teacher and end up hating her. (Deep breath) So they put together a plan to get the handsome bloke to take her to the ball were one of the girls boyfriends messes up the ballot for the ball so Carrie and the handsome bloke win the ball king and queen so John Travolta’s character can pour a bucket of pig blood over her on stage and humiliate her. Nice.
You may around about this time ask how all this makes it a horror. As I said in the intro Brian De Palma likes to set up a great ending. You see the whiny Texan lass is a physic possessing “Telekinesis�.
So Brian De Palma draws the bucket of pig blood seen out really long, throws in an assortment of camera shots you only use in **** music videos, i.e split screen. This is were Sissy Spacek/x shines as she melts on stage, eyes huge, covered in blood being laughed at by everyone, enjoy watching her kill them all.
Then she goes home gets knifed by her mum, so she crucifies her with flying cutlery and destroys her house with herself in it.
I’m not going to ruin the absolute ending, just keep the entrance to the toilet clean and wear a nappie.

There is so much to learn from this movie and so many good performances. Piper Laurie is ever creepy as good ol Mom. The last half an hour of this movie always breaks my heart in two- every time! Great score, Great story, an almost perfect film!
