What a great film, I can see myself up there as one of the boy's. I did so many of the things they do it was uncany watching this film. Every boy/child actor in the film does an outstanding job and the script is great. I love watching the changes that each boy goes through until the end. Stand By Me is a roller coaster of laughter, tears, anger, sadness and thought. Childhood and memories come to life in thsi film. An excellent depiction of Stephen King's The Body.

This film has been recommended to me several times over the years but I never had the urge to watch it. I finally put it in the DVD player on Sunday afternoon and realised just what I'd been missing. The first few notes of Stand By Me play in the background and that instantly sent a chill up my spine. My expectations were very high anyway, so I would expect nothing less than excellent. As the 4 boys are introduced you get a good sense of who they are and what type of person they are. The fat kid, Vern, is incredibly funny especially when he is being teased. I laughed so many times throughout this film because I recognised so many of the little jokes they made - when I was 12 I said the same things. Chris, played by the late River Phoenix, is the tough one but he takes very good care of his friends and makes sure that they do alright in life. It's tragic watching River Phoenix in this movie, because his talent is amazing and its a shame he died so young. Gordie is quite plain and lets the other characters do the exciting things for him but towards the end you really do feel for him.
This excellent tale of growing up is absolutely fantastic. The performances are flawless and you can just sit back and watch without having to use your brain too much. The soundtrack is one of the best I've heard in a long time, so much so that I've just bought it. You'll laugh, cry and also wish you had friends like those in the movie. The ending is very poignant, yet tragic at the same time. It's a crime that I never watched this sooner!

Propably the best Stephen King movie even better than Shawshank Redemption. With this book SK has tried his hands outside the horror genre and has suceeded tremendously. The movie sticks to the book for most part(skips a few chapters to make it an all 'n all a coming of age movie. It beats all the other coming of age movies that released during that period with its strong narration, acting and direction. Although the boys in the movie are just entering their teens and the first major one for most of them, their acting is absolutely great. The bonding among them looks convincingly believable. The characters of the four leads have been etched very carefully. Their innocence, the stupidity, the courage have been shown brilliantly. Infact when you meet someone stupid and think what kind of things he could have done in his childhood you could probably watch this movie and relate to them. Like other SK movies this one too is narration based. The dialogues have been kept very simple and real. The camera captures the mood of the scene in every frame. It crops the scenery and the lanscapes to the right ratio giving the movie a feeling of loneliness and exhaution throughout the movie. The director has not compromised with any aspect of the film which is why this makes each and everyone have a walk down their childhood memories.
MUST SEE. Could be rewatched a million times.

It's funny, thrilling, exciting and touching all in one. A great director made a great cast, notably River Phoenix, do great things. A true, timeless classic and a must-see for men of all ages and for women as well, as it provides a great insight into the lives of boys and them en they will become!
