John is a hardworking man, a father, who is living a pretty average life with his wife and nine-year-old son, Michael. Then, at Mike's baseball game, the boy collapses and it is discovered that he has a lethal heart condition that will kill him if he doesn't get a transplant and fast. John immediately agrees to the transplant, but then disocvers that his HMO won't cover such a complex operation and that he and his wife, Denise, will have to pay for the surgery out of their own pockets. Unable to come up with enough money, John takes a gun and locks down the ER, threatening to kill everyone inside unless his son gets a heart transplant.
