College basketball coach Pete Bell (Nick Nolte) under pressure to return his school to their past championship ways, grapples with the opportunity to recruit three "blue chips" to his team. Sharpshooting Farm Boy Ricky Roe (Matt Novner), Playmaking guard Butch McRae (Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway) and mammoth big man Neon Bodeaux (Shaquille O'Neal). He can get the players but at the risky price of paying the recruit which is illegal. Ed O'Neill plays the reporter who dogs him about his recruiting and J.T. Walsh plays the shady alumni booster who has the means to get the players.
