The day I got the dvd of this movie on the way back home, I was excited, because I always loved Penguin.
This Batman film is better than the first, because it had more action and more suspence. Michael Keaton did a great Batman, and Danny De Vido did a great Penguin. This is defenately better than the first! My second favorite of the four!

First some background information. Batman returns was released in 1992 and is once again directed by Tim Burton. Burton first didn't want to do this movie but with a few adaptations to the script, he said yes to his second and last Batman movie....

First some background information. Batman returns was released in 1992 and is once again directed by Tim Burton. Burton first didn't want to do this movie but with a few adaptations to the script, he said yes to his second and last Batman movie. To please Burton , the characters of Robin and Harvey dent were dropped from the script. That was for me a good thing, because I don't think that Robin was going to fit in the Burton movies. So let's jump to the acting and actors. Micheal Keaton is once again great in his role of Batman and just like in the first movie, he acts very good and makes a fine Batman/Bruce Wayne. So no complaints there. Next up is Danny DeVito as the Penguin. DeVito is just great in his role of the psychopatic Penguin and he plays the character in a certain way that you are disgusted by his appearance ,but you can't help to feel sorry for him. You just can't deny that the character was in some strange way just made for him. So in short , DeVito acts great and is one of the greatest villains in the series. The writers dropped Vicky Vale and made a new female lead character. Michelle Pfeiffer plays Catwoman and puts down a solid performance. i gotta admit that from all the lead actors , i find her the least good, but thats probably because I don't like the character of Catwoman that much. At least she did better than Hale Berry in one of the baddest movies ever: Catwoman! And last , but not least , there is Christopher Walken as Max Shreck. I really like Walken in this role, his character is just the typical bad guy but at the end of the movie we see some father love from him which is in my eyes some great character development. So it's safe to say that Walken puts down a good performance in this movie. Micheal Gough and Pat Hingle reprises their roles as Alfred and Commissioner Gordon.

So the last thing i'm going to discuss is the story. The story is one of revenge, manipulation and sometimes has a romantic story. I can also say that this movie is really dark , perhaps to dark for kids. When the Penguin is left in the sewers by his parents, he is kinda adopted by penguins. Years later he returns and has one heck of a diabolical plan. He wants to murder all the first born kids in Gotham by drowning them in toxic waste produced by the director of a major coorporation ,Max Shreck. Shreck meets the penguin and he wants to make him mayor , to build his power plant to suck up all of Gothams energy. His secretary finds out his plan and Shreck attempts to kill her. It fails and she returns as Catwoman. Batman has to fight Catwoman and the Penguin and that is like the story in short. What i also like about the story is the open ending. So in short, Batman returns is a decent movie , but is maybe a bit to dark. But in the end this is a great movie and a must see for Batman fans or just movie lovers.

Although I prefer the original 1989 Batman by Tim Burton, Batman Returns is a quality comic book adventure film.

Although I prefer the original 1989 Batman by Tim Burton, Batman Returns is a quality comic book adventure film.

Burton has made Batman Returns even darker than the first film. Catwoman is wearing some sort of leather fetish outfit and the Penguin seems to constantly have some disgusting black ink dribbling out of his mouth.

The villain count in this move is doubled (tripled really) so we spend less time with Batman himself compared to the first film. I find Batman more interesting, so that was a negative for me.

Still, Burton's art direction and dark, gothic visuals are always enjoyable to watch. Good movie.

I recently watched Batman and Batman Returns the other day because i am doing an essay on Tim Burton. A few minor details are wrong like Batman kills a few of the gang members but apart from that this is an awesome film!!! watch it now

Worth seeing at any time

The first batman with michael keaton was great but this one was even better. Michael Keaton once again plays the role of batman perfect and danny devito was amazing as the penguin and michelle Pfeiffer was a sexy catwoman. great movie.

One of those rare sequels that is even better than it's orginial. Batman Returns is the sequel to Tim Burton's box-office cult-classic: Batman, and, Batman Returns is another fun and busy romp like the first film, but surprinsingly a more emotional and definetly more surreal sequel.

Batman Returns has a surprinsingly much more darker plot in tone that it's prodecessor. The highly rich Cobbleplots have just given birth to a deformed son, and drop him down the sewers and abandon him. The deformed son, who is later called Oswald Cobblepot in the movie, soon manages to find a place like home with a couple of Emperor Penguins from the zoo. A local business tycoon named Max Shreck says a speech at Christmas tree-lighting ceremony. "The Red Triangle Gang", which is The Penguin's (a.k.a: Oswald Cobblepot) clown army, shoot and attack the streets of Gotham City. It's up to Batman to restore order.

Batman Returns captures the wild dark flair of the oddball imagination of Tim Burton, and the dark, mysterious look of Gotham City portrayed in the beloved comic book of our batty hero. Both of these amazing set designs both show off the natural and depressive mood of your usual local city, and show off the twisted supernatural side of a director's vision.

Batman Returns has some of the best visual eye-candy on display. Most of the sequences are super memorable and, even though they look like tricks, "well-done" is the middle name. For instance, there is one shot where Batman is tracking down the Penguin's lair in the sewers, and, he does a twist in the air, with the water splashing in the air, with his Batmarine. Wow!

Batman Returns has quite a melancholy mood to it, and the ending is the most quirky, but, generally a quite sad ending too.

Overall, Batman Returns is one of Burton's best and most memorable flicks, and, in my mind, this is a "super" superhero movie.

Okay Batman Returns, the 2nd installment in the series of batman movies, was a good movie but could have been better. Penguin and Catwoman both, were unnescessarily gruesome, compared to the comic book counterparts. Atleast Penguin was legal in some point of the movie, like he trys to maintain in the comics. As for Catwoman, Michelle Pfeifer was a pretty good actor for her and i liked the end scene with her and Shreck. Also, this is probably the best relationship for bruce/batman out of the 4 movies.
