Westerburg High School is run by a powerful group of girls known as "The Heathers." Heather Chandler is the leader, gorgeous, evil and heartless. She's decided to give Veronica Sawyer a chance to become one of their feared clique members. Veronica is starting to grow weary of their cruelty to other students, and she meets transfer student Jason Dean. Immediately the two hit it off, and Jason "jokes" with Veronica about how much nicer Westerburg High would be without Heather Chandler and the other popular kids. Thinking it a harmless prank, Veronica joins Jason on a trip to Heather Chandler's house, where she is killed after drinking a mug of drain cleaner given to her by Veronica. Shocked and scared, Jason talks Veronica into forging a suicide note to cover up the incident. But things at the school get even more out of hand after Heather Chandler's "suicide," as Heather Duke takes over and soon Jason makes it clear that he intends to do away with the other Heathers as well as other students. Now, Veronica must deal with more murders, copycat suicide attempts, Heather Duke's tyrannical wrath, and a horrid plan by Jason to turn the school into an inferno during a pep rally.
