Unlike most teen comedies (if you classify this as one) that came out in the late 90's, this film doesn't revolve around who's popular at school, or it doesn't end at a prom, in fact the only time school is mentioned is when they're moving.

This is a surprisingly affecting movie, which has several things in common with Little Miss Sunshine- a sentimental but not overdone message that affirms life and family, and a delightful performance from Alan Arkin as a nontraditional father...
