Two neighbors work together to try to win a contest run by Barrett's Soda. George Thomas is a widower who's a down on his luck author, has two girls (JJ & Delia) while Vicki Walters is a divorcee who has one son (Alan). Alan gets a brilliant idea by entering both families in the Barrett's Soda perfect family contest. He makes a family picture on his computer, then he & JJ compose an awesome essay. Weeks later, Mr. Barrett arrives telling the kids that they're a finalist family! But he also mentions he'll have to live with them for a week. So Alan arranges to borrow the neighbors for the contest & have them live @ their house for a week. He also has Marco, his cameraman to film them for a week. Moments later, two FBI agents visit them & inform that Barrett's a fraud because he stole a formula for his new soda. So they insist that they humor him for a week. The parents learn to get along, even though they hate each other. When the family went to the beach, the two agents caught up to Alan @ the snack stop saying they're on to him. They discover why he really enetred the contest & blackmailed him by having his family & neighbors in jail if he doesn't get Barrett's new soda. The next night, George & Vicki have seperate dates @ a fancy restaurant, Gillian's. But then enter Ernie Barrett & his date (Vicki's mom), confusion starts to happen. A few days later over @ The Beef & Beer, George is on stage with electric guitar in hand. He gets stage fright that Alan comes up on stage, borrows an electric guitar, plays a cool solo, then starts playing & singing "You Really Got Me"! George joins Alan in that jam session! The big day of the new soda arrives & when the FBI comes by & sees Alan drinking Barrett's new soda (chocolate), Alan pours it on the pavement. He told them that they're not FBI agents @ all, they worked for a rival soda company! The real FBI (including cameraman Marco) arrests the phonies. Ernie finds out the truth that the family ware really neighbors. He's about to start the search again until George & Vicki kissed. Later, they got married!
