Why do so many fantasy movies get mis-advertised? Is it because the produers are worried that if their movie ISN'T Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings that no one will come see it?

Imagine That is yet another movie I've seen this year with poor marketing. It was promoted as a family comedy, and it is sweetly funny about a father and his little daughter, but it is not a film for small children. It is a fantasy film first and foremost.

Not because it's scary, or violent, or filled with cuss words or sex. Those aren't in Imagine That. It's because it's got a somewhat complicated plot with various subplots, and much discussion about topics way over a child's head regarding insider trading, competitive job hunting and Native American vision quest practices. Imagine That starts out slowly, but gets better as the movie progresses. The scenes with Eddie Murphy and his family are charming, but the business scenes are too complicated for a youngster to follow and the subplot about Thomas Haden Church is boring and stupid and really causes you to lose interest.

Also, even though it's an Eddie Murphy movie, it doesn't bear much resemblance to his previous family comedies. In fact, because of the Beatles songs in the movie, it will remind you at times of the movies of Yellow Submarine or Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
I no longer see movies which are remakes, sequels, based on comic books or based on TV series.
